Things are cooling down now. I've put the men on R and R. After what happened here the other day, they deserve it. We all deserve
it.
I've been working on a few things recently that would definitely help us along. Notably, I'm trying to draw up diagrams for a
diesel engine. If I can get a 4 cyl diesel engine working, then we can become a mechanized unit. I'm thinking a light tank. I have
a simple tank drawn up, but with no engine it's not gonna do anything. I estimate it'll take a month or two to get the engine
working, then another two or so to build the tank.
As far as it's design, I'm leaning towards something based off of the M3 Stuart light tank from WWII. Light, mobile and effective.
Another piece I've been working on and will build not long from now is a cannon with a revolving cylinder. I saw in the battle of
DC that we had a decided lack of heavy firepower. Our largest things were flamethrowers and RPG's. Not powerful or flexible
enough. The cannon I have drawn up is a revolver cannon similar to a naval cannon produced not long after the Civil War ended in
my timeline. It was never very popular, but I think I can make it work. A five round revolvng cylinder, using cartridges and
manually rotated. I'm thinking maybe 52mm. Such a gun would be well suited to firing from an emplacement or from a tank(haha).
We buried our dead yesterday. Gave them hero's funerals. That's what they deserve.
I'm really missing my lady though. I don't think about it in combat, but in these off times I certainly do. Back in my own time,
she was my life. Now I'm over here, originally doing it to try to secure a better world for her, and I'd rather just go home. No
shoe clicking here though, I'm stuck as stuck can be.
I've been trying to decide where to go next. If we can take a major manufacturing center, then we could retool it and get more
ammo. It would also be a major blow to the Union and further our cause.
